The Raytown School District received the honorable mention award in the 5,000 to 20,000 enrollment category in the 23rd annual Magna Awards program sponsored by the National School Boards Association’s (NSBA’s) flagship magazine, American School Board Journal (ASBJ), and supported by Sodexo, a leader in delivering sustainable, integrated facilities management and food service operations.

The District was one of only 33 districts selected from 200 submissions nationwide. The District’s submission details the successes of the Raytown Schools Wellness Center including a 79 percent reduction in a worker compensation expenses resulting in a reduction in worker compensation insurance premium of over $300,000.

The District has also experienced a reduction of more than $980,000 in unused premium costs as a result of lower health insurance claims and employees have saved more than $117,000 in out of pocket expenses by avoiding deductibles and co-pays.

The Magna Awards is a national recognition program that honors school board best practices and innovative programs that advance student learning and recognizes school districts and their leaders for taking bold and innovative steps to improve the lives of students and their communities. For more than 20 years, the Magna Awards panel of independent judges has reviewed programs that showcase school district leadership, creativity, and commitment to student achievement.

The District is recognized in a special section published in print and online in American School Board Journal, as well as at the School Leaders Luncheon at NSBA’s Annual Conference on Saturday, March 25, in Denver, Colorado.
