Jazz Band programs from around the District receive honors

Jazz Band programs from Raytown Middle School, Raytown Central Middle School, Raytown South Middle School, Raytown High School and Raytown South High School received honors at Jazz Band Festivals. 

The Raytown Middle School Jazz Band performed at Missouri Western Jazz Festival and students Matthew Maluia on trumpet, and Madisen Berry on Trombone earned outstanding soloist awards. At the University of Central Missouri Jazz Festival, the Raytown Middle School Jazz Band earned an overall excellent (II) rating. Students Antonio Burns on trumpet, and Madisen Berry on trombone received outstanding soloist awards.  The Raytown Middle School Jazz Band is under the direction of Mike Doney. 

The Raytown Central Middle School Jazz Band competed at the Missouri Western Jazz Festival students Judson Hulme on drums, and Tess Scoggins on alto saxophone received Outstanding Soloist Awards. Student Judson Hulme also received the Outstanding Soloist Award at the Northwest Missouri State Jazz Festival. Raytown Central Middle School Jazz Band earned a (I) and two (II) ratings with an overall excellent (II) rating at the University of Central Missouri Jazz Festival. The Raytown Central Middle School Jazz Band is under the direction of Tyler Rick. 

The Raytown South Middle School Jazz Band participated in the Missouri Western Jazz Festival and received (I) ratings. Three students earned outstanding soloists awards C.J. Stigler on alto saxophone and clarinet; Makari Locke on tenor saxophone and clarinet; and Rodrigo Torres on trumpet. The Raytown South Middle School Jazz Band earned first place in the middle school division at the Northwest Missouri State Jazz Festival. The band earned the top spot over eight other middle school jazz bands, and this is the fifth consecutive year the band has earned first place at the festival. Several students also received outstanding soloist awards: Jequan Johnson on alto saxophone, Nequan Johnson on trumpet, Makari Locke on tenor saxophone, Spencer Starks on electric bass, C.J. Stigler on alto saxophone, and Rodrigo Torres on trumpet. The Raytown South Middle School Jazz Band also participated in the University of Central Missouri Jazz Festival and received three (1+) ratings from the judges.  Outstanding soloists’ awards were awarded to Makari Locke on tenor saxophone and clarinet, Spencer Starks on electric bass, C.J. Stigler on alto saxophone and clarinet, and Rodrigo Torres on trumpet.  The Raytown South Middle School Jazz Band will also perform at the 18th and Vine Jazz Festival at the Metropolitan Community College-Penn Valley campus on April 22.  The Raytown South Middle School Jazz Band is under the direction of Brenda Kueck.

The Raytown High School Jazz Band performed at the Missouri Western Jazz Festival and students Lucas Boyd on alto saxophone, Kevin Johnson on tenor saxophone, Caleb McCarroll on piano, and Calvin Plank on trumpet received outstanding soloist awards. At the University of Central Missouri Jazz Festival, Jazz I band received at (I) rating and the Jazz 2 band received a (I) rating. Students Earl Bradshaw on drums, Tristen Clayton on drums, and Caleb McCarroll on piano, Ian McCready on alto saxophone, and Jordan Patrick on drums received outstanding soloist awards. At the Pittsburg State University Jazz Festival Jazz I band received at (I) rating and the Jazz 2 band received a (II) rating. Students Earl Bradshaw on drums, Tristen Clayton on drums, Fred Farrand on trumpet, Caleb Fisk on bass, Cameron Geeding on alto saxophone, Kevin Johnson on tenor saxophone, Kelly Miller on flugelhorn, Ian McCready on alto saxophone, Troy Oberholz on bass, and Jordan Patrick on drums received outstanding soloist awards. The Raytown High School Jazz Band I will perform at the 18th and Vine Jazz Festival at the Metropolitan Community College-Penn Valley campus on April 22.  The Raytown High School Jazz Band is under the direction of Joseph Hill. 

The Raytown South Jazz Band competed at Missouri Western State University Jazz Festival and students earned an overall outstanding performance with three soloist awards, including Federico Monarrez on Tenor Saxophone, Levi Barkley on Vibraphone and Vernon Potts on Vibraphone. The Raytown South Jazz Band also competed at the University of Central Missouri and Pittsburg State University jazz festivals earning an overall (I) rating at both events. Outstanding Soloist awards were earned by Levi Barkley on Vibraphone and Vernon Potts on Vibraphone at both festivals. The Raytown South high school Jazz Band performed at the Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration at in January. The Raytown South High School Jazz Band is under the direction of Brandon Hord.
