Raytown South students qualify to compete at National FCCLA Conference

Recently, Raytown South students competed in the Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) state competition and two students qualified for the national competition. 

Alexis Jefferson and Dawson Schmutzler received a gold medal in the Sports Nutrition event and the duo earned one of the top two gold medal scores qualifying them to compete at the FCCLA National Leadership Conference in Nashville, Tennessee, July 2-6.

Other state FCCLA competitors included Eileen Slinker, who earned a silver medal in the Chapter Service Project Portfolio event; Maia Lewis, who earned a gold medal Environmental Ambassador event; and Erin Thomas, who earned a gold medal in Entrepreneurship. South student Juliette Vargas qualified for the state competition. 

Raytown South students also served as regional FCCLA leaders during the 2016-2017 school year, Eileen Slinker served as the 1st Vice-President and Maia Lewis served as the Parliamentarian. The following students will serve as regional FCCLA leaders for the 2017-2018 school year, Emma Gibson will serve as Historian, and Victoria Kenworthy will serve as Recreational Leader, and Dawson Schmutzler will serve as Parliamentarian.

FCCLA is the career and technical student organization for Family and Consumer Science.
